What therapy does TICTI offer?
At TICTI, we specialize in an innovative “intensive therapy retreat” model. Unlike traditional weekly sessions, our program allows clients to meet one-on-one with the same therapist for multiple consecutive full days. This structure promotes faster progress by maintaining therapeutic momentum, reducing the time spent revisiting previous sessions, and allowing for deeper emotional processing without the disruptions that can occur between weekly appointments. This immersive format has been shown to be highly effective in helping individuals reprocess deep-seated attachment wounds, traumas, and losses, starting from pre-verbal stages to the present.
Why an intensive therapy retreat?
Some problems are too costly to let them drag on and on. An intensive therapy retreat can save months or years of treatment. You may prefer to solve the problem and move forward. Our treatment approach and methods lead to meaningful results.
How does it work?
Our intensive therapy retreat consists of full-day sessions spread over multiple consecutive days. This concentrated schedule enables clients to engage in deep, focused therapeutic work without the interruptions of daily life. The continuous support and dedicated time foster significant progress in a shorter timeframe compared to traditional therapy models, allowing for transformative healing experiences.
How do I start?
We understand that starting your healing journey can feel overwhelming, but we strive to make the process as supportive and straightforward as possible. Contact us at 413-282-7797 to schedule a free screening interview with one of our experienced clinicians. During this initial call, the clinician will discuss your needs in detail, explain our intensive therapy approach, and help determine if the timing is right for you to begin an intensive therapy retreat.
Do you offer inpatient services?
Our intensive therapy retreat takes place in a typical therapist’s office setting. We do not offer inpatient services. Most people travel to one of our locations and find lodging that is comfortable for them, based on their own budgets and preferences.
Do you offer hourly therapy?
No, we do not provide traditional hourly therapy sessions. If you are looking for hourly therapy, we recommend exploring our directory of trained therapists who practice in various states: Therapist Directory. For trauma-specific therapy, you may also find qualified professionals through the EMDR Therapist Finder.
Who is eligible?
We serve both adults, adolescents, and children who are seeking to address trauma, attachment-related challenges, or emotional wounds. The format for children includes additional considerations to create a nurturing, age-appropriate environment that supports their healing journey.
What can I expect?
During the intensive therapy retreat, clients will participate in a range of therapeutic activities tailored to their specific needs. The sessions focus on reprocessing traumatic experiences, addressing attachment issues, and fostering emotional resilience. Techniques may include evidence-based approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Progressive Counting, and Flash. For more detailed information, please visit: What To Expect.
It looks good. But is an intensive therapy retreat right for me?
The next step is to discuss your situation and your goals with our intake consultant. They will give you a recommendation, and you’ll decide how to proceed.
How do I choose a therapist?
Our team consists of highly skilled and experienced therapists who specialize in trauma and attachment-focused therapies. Each therapist is carefully selected for their expertise and compassionate approach. Together with our intake consultant, you will choose a clinician based on experience, areas of expertise, cost, location, scheduling, or other factors. You can learn more about our therapists, including their locations and daily rates, by visiting: Our Therapists.
Is it covered by insurance?
Due to the unique structure of our intensive therapy model, most insurance providers do not cover the cost of treatment. However, some clients have successfully obtained partial reimbursement from their private insurance companies after paying in full and then submitting claims post-treatment. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to explore potential coverage options. We can provide you with an information sheet that may help you when talking to them so that you can accurately explain our services.
Are there cost-covered programs?
Yes, we offer special programs where the cost of treatment is fully covered:
- Victim Compensation. Every state has a program to provide funds to assist crime victims in recovering from the impact of the crime. This can include funding for therapy.
- State-Funded Therapy – Western Massachusetts. We offer state-funded intensives to victims of crime in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties in Western MA, thanks to a VOCA grant.
- Funded Therapy – Wilmington, NC. We offer funded intensives to people residing in the Wilmington, NC area, thanks to grants from a private foundation as well as the New Hanover Community Endowment.
- State-Funded Treatment for PA Survivors of Sexual Abuse/Assault. We offer intensives for victims of sexual abuse or assault that took place in Pennsylvania.
How do I choose between an intensive therapy retreat and residential/inpatient treatment?
Residential/inpatient programs tend to offer a variety of activities (e.g., group therapy, yoga, etc.) which may be educational as well as helpful in coping with the symptoms. But information and coping strategies do not generally solve the problem. If the program even offers the trauma resolution work, it is typically for only an hour or two per week. Thus, the primary benefit of such programs is safety and stabilization.
In the therapy retreat, you’re doing the individual therapy — typically including trauma resolution work — all day long. Once you have healed from the trauma/loss wounds, you don’t have to cope with the associated symptoms anymore. For those who are safe and stable enough not to require inpatient confinement, the primary benefit of the therapy retreat is healing and resolution of problems. Click here for more info on how to choose.
What if I can only do weekends?
Some therapists offer weekend appointments. We generally recommend that you get the whole job done in a single block of days, if possible.
The number of treatment days needed varies considerably. Recovering from a single incident can take just a day or two, whereas recovering from a very significant history of trauma and loss can take one to several weeks. Shortly after the intake Zoom session, you’ll get an estimated number of days needed.
Can my unique situation be accommodated?
Some retreat participants may require extra professional services, such as an additional therapist (for couples or families, in some circumstances) or a translator. Personal services (e.g., child care) may also be required. Your needs and requests will be discussed ahead of time so that the appropriate services can be arranged.
How many hours and days of therapy can a person stand?
Not all therapy is emotionally intense or tiring, and most people can do it. We do three therapy hours in the morning, break for an hour for lunch, and three therapy hours in the afternoon. However, some people do not use all of their hours, and that’s OK.
What if I don't want to "talk about it"?
Then you don’t have to. Telling the therapist the details of what happened is not required to heal from a trauma or loss memory. You will have to think about it, though, in a particular way as guided by the therapist, to get the work done.
Do you provide translation services?
In our grant-funded program for victims of crime in Western MA, TICTI provides translators, as needed, for our therapy services (including therapy sessions, relevant documents, and client records).
Should I come alone or with my partner/family?
It depends on several factors, including whether you will need a companion to support your stability during off hours (e.g., in the evening), and whether they are likely to participate in the therapy. You can discuss this with the intake consultant and then make your decision.
What if my work is not done by the end of the retreat?
Most people will accomplish quite a lot in the retreat. However, if you want to do more, you have the option of returning for another retreat, following up with your therapist through telehealth, or completing your work elsewhere.
What if my work is done before the end of the retreat?
There is normally a two-day minimum fee, after which time you only pay for time used, in half day increments. For example, if you book for Monday through Friday, but finish halfway through Thursday morning, you would pay for 3.5 days.
Why should this work when nothing else has?
Many generally effective treatment approaches fail for some people. This is often because the therapy did not address one or more of the major treatment obstacles. For example:
- A sports psychologist may provide anger management training but fail to address the trauma or loss memories that make the angry reaction so strong.
- An executive coach may teach positive thinking and communication skills but fail to address the underlying fear that causes the impaired performance.
- A school may provide counseling and tutoring but fail to address the student’s lack of motivation.
- A therapist may guide a grieving client to discuss the loss but fail to prepare the client to tolerate the strong emotions.
Our research-supported phase model approach systematically addresses the major treatment issues and obstacles. Proven-effective interventions are used to:
- enhance motivation
- reduce stresses and temptations
- improve self-management skills
- resolve trauma and loss memories
- achieve peak performance at work
- anticipate future challenges
This maximizes the treatment’s efficiency as well as the likelihood of results that endure.
I tried EMDR (or other trauma therapy) before and it didn't go well. Why should I try again?
How is my privacy protected?
All therapists are required to keep information about you confidential. Depending on how the treatment is being paid for, the therapist may not even be communicating with an insurance company. And if you are going to a therapist away from your own home area, there’s little chance of even an accidental confidentiality breach (e.g., by seeing someone you know in the therapy office). Many consider the intensive model to be among the most confidential of therapy formats.
Do you ask clients to write reviews?
We do not request reviews from our clients. Thus the rare unhappy client is more likely to post a review than the usual satisfied client (because most people do not publicly discuss their therapy).
Is it OK to ask a lot of questions?
Yes. We encourage people to ask as many questions as they’d like. We want our clients to fully understand our therapy process, so that they will know if it is a good fit for them and also so they will know what to expect when they come to their first session.
Do you provide follow-up?
Yes. We reach out to our clients post-treatment to ensure they are doing okay and to remind them that we are always here if they feel they need to come back for more therapy.
I have allergies or sensitivities -- What's the office like?
We operate a scent-reduced facility, meaning that we endeavor to avoid scented cleaning products and body products. However, we cannot guarantee a totally scent-free environment.
Where will I stay?
If you’re traveling to work with a therapist, we have a list of recommended lodging options.
