Hello, and welcome to my page at TICTI! If you’re here, I’m guessing you’d like to know a little bit more about me and whether we might be a good match or not.

As a therapist, I use evidence-based treatments, creativity, and humor as part of my work. I believe in incorporating an individual client’s needs, beliefs, and special interests into their treatment whenever I can. I’m an empathetic, non-judgmental, and honest therapist who will both support you and challenge you as we work toward your goals. Of course, I would like to consider myself as anything but an “average” therapist and I choose to believe that the words “and how does that make you feel?” have never come out of my mouth.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, my life as a therapist began. I started working as a trauma therapist at a residential treatment center for at risk adolescents, and it’s where I had my first exposure to doing both Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). From there, I transitioned to working at an outpatient adolescent DBT program, where I worked as a clinical supervisor, ultimately becoming the program coordinator. I got the chance to broaden my experience to working with adult clients as well, and it was around this time that I began to recognize and foster my excitement and passion about doing parts work as a piece of trauma therapy with clients.

I became a therapist at the Trauma Institute in March of 2020 – the week that COVID-19 ground everything to a halt. Within my second week at TICTI, I was able to offer a widely-viewed one-hour workshop on “Grounding in Teletherapy.” Over the years, I have been assisting with several trainings including EMDR and The Fairy Tale Model of Treatment, as well as Attachment and Dissociation. Currently, I am leading my own EMDR Basic trainings (geared towards neurodivergent clinicians but open to all).

I am intensively trained in DBT, I’m certified in EMDR, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and an EMDRIA Trainer. I am a member of EMDRIA, an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist, a neurodivergent affirming therapist, and am licensed in New York State.

A Fairy Tale

Now off press: Slaying the Dragon: Overcoming Life’s Challenges and Achieving Your Goals

Teaching & Training

Dr. Greenwald offers the Trauma Institute & Child Trauma Institute training programs, including in-depth trauma training for mental health professionals and others (judges, teachers, caseworkers, line staff, parents, etc.) who work with trauma-exposed children, teens, and adults.

TICTI

The Trauma Institute & Child Trauma Institute (TICTI) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that provides training, consultation, information, and resources for those who work with trauma-exposed children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Greenwald founded CTI in 2002 in order to more widely disseminate high-quality training programs on trauma treatment and EMDR. The Trauma Institute (TI) name was added in 2008 to convey the full range of our activities, which apply to adults as well as kids. TICTI has a growing faculty of highly qualified supervisors and trainers. Our website provides information and resources to the professional community and the general public, and averages over 60,000 hits per month.

EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is the most efficient of the well established research-supported treatments for trauma and loss. Dr. Greenwald is a pioneer and leading authority on EMDR, and the recipient of two major awards by the EMDR International Association. He is the author of several books on EMDR, including EMDR in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy (1999) (translated into German and Italian; Using EMDR With Children, (translated into Spanish); and the text book, EMDR Within a Phase Model of Trauma-Informed Treatment. Dr. Greenwald provides training and consultation for therapists, researchers, and agencies internationally.

Progressive Counting

Progressive Counting (PC) is a newer trauma treatment developed by Dr. Greenwald, based on the counting method, that so far appears to be well tolerated by clients, as effective as EMDR, more efficient, and relatively easy for therapists to learn. PC’s research support is growing.

Intensive Trauma-Focused Therapy

Dr. Greenwald is among the pioneers in developing intensive trauma-focused therapy, and TICTI is a leading provider. Intensive trauma-focused therapy has been found to be as effective as the same treatment approach delivered in conventional weekly sessions, while the intensive model yields very quick results, reduces dropout, and reduces total treatment hours.
